Without grumbling

'Do everything without grumbling...' - Philippians 2:14

Another Parents' Day tomorrow - my third. My first one feels so far away though... none of the same nervous excitement now. More wishing I didn't have to go to work on a Saturday. I've lost my passion more quickly than I had thought I would!

This blog entry has been brewing in my mind for a while... it occurred to me one day that, amidst all my grumbling about the workload, I have many things to be thankful about as a teacher. Here's a list I'm going to continue to add to.

Why I'm thankful to be teaching at DGS
  1. My students are happy to see me. The girls greet me in public, outside school. In MTR stations or in malls, they would actually come up to me and tap me on the shoulder and say, "Mrs. Takasugi", or if we make eye contact first, they will nod. Now that I stop and think about this, it blows me away!
  2. I get to talk about God freely, during morning assembly, in the classroom, and outside the classroom. I can incorporate the gospel message into discussions of literature and writing and current issues.
  3. It takes me only 10 minutes to walk to school from home if I hustle, and 15 if I take my time.
  4. There's a chapel at school where I spend some quiet time in the morning or slip into to pray with a colleague or a student.
  5. I have wonderful colleagues who I truly consider friends. They make time in the staff room fun!
  6. ...

'Turn my eyes from looking at worthless things;
and give me life in your ways.'
- Psalm 119:37

Lord, by your grace alone and the might of your Spirit!
